Between six and 12 months is an ideal time frame in which to expose them to new textures and flavours.
“Once they hit about 18–24 months, neophobia (the fear of new foods) often kicks in. If they’ve already banked a library of 50+ foods and flavours during those early days, they are much less likely to “shut down” and insist on white bread and nuggets later on,” she says.

But exposing babies to new flavours doesn’t have to be difficult.
Even simply including a spice lke cinnamon, cumin or turmeric in an apple puree early on represents a “food bridge” for a baby.
“If a baby is used to the smell of cinnamon in their apple puree, they’ll be more likely to accept a savory Moroccan-inspired stew later. This variety prevents flavour boredom and makes them more curious about what’s on your plate,” Jessica says.
“There is no exact method for every baby; there’s just variety. There’s texture, flavour and food variety — all which can be explored via your diet and your meals, to expose them to their ‘normal’ family meals from day one.
“Don’t stress if they don’t eat everything — just exposure and trial and error.”
