Collingwood have put a line through Darcy Moore’s season after the premiership captain suffered a fresh hamstring injury on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old has had a stop-start campaign with multiple soft-tissue injuries and a concussion.
There were already fears he would be forced to sit out the rest of the year after struggling to get on top of a hamstring injury suffered in May, as well as an inflamed bursa in his knee.

But a new setback to the same right hamstring has now officially ended his season.
The Magpies said Moore will head in for surgery with the hope of attacking a full pre-season later this year.
“I’m disappointed to be missing the remainder of the season after what’s already been a challenging year for me personally, not being able to consistently get out on the field and contribute to the team,” Moore said in a club statement.
“While I’m gutted that my 2026 season has come to an early end, I’ll continue working closely with our high-performance team and put everything into my rehabilitation to ensure I’m ready for the start of pre-season.
“I also want to thank the fans in the Magpie Army for their support and well wishes over this time. Injuries are never easy but having the passionate support of so many of you makes the recovery and return much easier.”
A pair of hamstring injuries earlier in the year prompted a trip to the United States, where Moore consulted experts in the field.
Pies football boss Charlie Gardiner confirmed Moore would still play a role off the field.
“Darcy has unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury in the same right leg as his previous injury, which is incredibly disappointing for both Darcy and the Club.
“Darcy will undergo surgery before commencing his rehabilitation program, with the goal of being ready for the start of pre-season.
“Although Darcy has had a challenging year individually and won’t play again this season, he’ll continue to play an important leadership role, driving performance and supporting our players and coaches over the coming weeks.”
Moore joins star forward Jamie Elliott, Reef McInnes and Oscar Steene — all out with knee injuries — on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
Fellow defender Brayden Maynard will return from his shoulder injury in Collingwood’s huge clash with Gold Coast on Saturday, while Isaac Quaynor (ankle) is out this week.
The Pies and Suns, who are in a serious slump with five straight defeats, are battling for the last wildcard spot.
A Collingwood loss to Gold Coast and a Carlton win over Richmond later on Saturday would incredibly see the Blues jump their arch rivals on the ladder.
